Progress – Block Lotto January 2010 Tic Tac Toe winnings
I’ve not been around much as my computer had a virus and I was not going to take the risk of passing it on! Anyway it’s all working again so I can show you that I’ve begun to sash the blocks and join them together. With hindsight I should have checked all the blocks are the same size, and made sure my sashing was too. Nevermind, it’ll cheer up my bedroom no end to have this on the bed to protect it against Ivor cat hairs and the quilt police don’t know where I live….
I’m using all the blocks I won, but have made some extra blocks in the same white background and then some with hand-dyed backgrounds with white haches on. I’ve arranged them 7 across and 9 down in the order of the spectrum (red/ orange/ yellow/ green/ blue/ indigo/ violet but with 2 extra rows that are yellow/green and blue/green because I got more of some colours than others). Sashing is white, and then the cornerstones (well they’re in the corner but don’t look to hard at the matching – they don’t!) are in complementary colours (well as near as I could find in my stash – green/ blue/ purple/ dark magenta/ red/ reddish-orange/ orange/ yellow).
I think it's going to be pretty gorgeous, too. I mentioned it on your blog earlier, but it's probably worth saying again. If you are adding sashing/cornerstone to each block individually, you can always square up the blocks after it's added. In fact, this is one technique for dealing with blocks that aren't all the same size when you don't want to cut down the larger ones (because you'll cut off points, for example).
Everyone should click over and check out Andra's progress with her blocks, too. Those Tic-Tac-Toe blocks are part of some cute quilts, already finished and in progress.
I think it looks terrific. I don't see any problem with the matching. I wasn't looking for it and no one else will either — unless that cat is a real nit-picker, LOL! I think it's one lucky cat!
Aren't these fun blocks?? Yours looks great. i will go ahead and post my progress with my winnings…
I did think of putting the sashing/ cornerstones on, but then thought that it would have more impact if I had differently sized sashing/stones than if I just trimmed off the two 'free sides' of the main block.
I have no idea how one is supposed to do it, but what I've been doing is putting sashing on two sides and a stone at the corner, then sewing two blocks together, then two sets of two blocks together. Somewhat hilariously I kept sewing it all upside down/ wrong sided etc, until I got the hang of it. I'm learning loads! Mostly not what to do…
In the first sentance it should say "I did think of putting the sashing/ cornerstones on then trimming, but…"
What a lucky cat to get getting your wonderful quilt to lay on!! It is going to look great. Kathie L in Allentown
