A slight delay in getting the January Mailing info out

Posted by on February 2, 2011 in blocks | 2 comments

The good news is that I have heard from all twelve January winners and confirmed their addresses and preferences in terms of keeping or sending some/all of their blocks.

The not so good news was that I had a commitment after work last night and by the time I got home, my brain was too tired to face sorting out the big table of who sends how many to which winners … and I think I already made enough errors with the drawing–we don’t need any more of that for January.

I woke up early this morning, put on breakfast, went through my yoga tape and thought I had enough time to do it this morning.  Just as I started to sit down to my computer to work on it … THUNK … and complete blackness.  The power went out. I soon realized that

  • my flashlight was in the car (which was a set of stairs up the hill in complete darkness away)
  • while I have candles, I have no matches or lighter
  • I could shower (in the dark) but wouldn’t be able to dry my hair afterwards
  • my iPhone makes a pretty good flashlight in a pinch (after I ate my yummy warming oatmeal in the dark, I checked my email)
  • my electric toothbrush still works (that one was a doh! moment–of course, it’s charged)

When the sun started to come up, I was making plans to get dressed and get out … worrying a little about how well my cats would fare today if the power didn’t come back on soon (the apartment was cooling off surprisingly fast).

Just when I was about to give up, get dressed and head to the office,  the lights came on and the furnace started blowing … but, I lost the window of opportunity to work on our chart.

Assuming no more weather-related interference, I hope to sort it out and send it to everyone tonight. I will post a message here when it has been sent so you can look for it (and maybe look in your spam filter for it, too 😉

I hope everyone in areas effected by this crazy weather is warm and safe and (if you’re in Australia) dry.  The temperature in Austin plunged from almost 80 on Monday to the teens and out highs are only going to be in the low 30’s.  (which would be considered cold here if that were the low for the day).

EDITED TO ADD:  It turns out that my power outages were PLANNED–the result of rolling blackouts across Texas after 50 generators, effected by the weather, were down.  The drama continued at work, when we learned that there was no back-up generator in our building … we all were diligent about saving any files we had open more frequently than ever and thinking twice before using the elevators, lest we get stuck inside.

  1. I think most of the country is covered in snow and won't be able to mail their blocks for a few more days anyway!
This weekend I'm going to give the January blocks a try. I figure it falls under the resolution of getting rid of fabric, unless I win, which would be FABULOUS!
Hang in there Sophie! It's only 36 degrees today in Las Vegas at noon and us desert rats are shivering.

  2. Yes, hang in there!

It's all okay and will happen when it happens.

    : )
