3-D flowers being mailed today

I went looking for some fabric to bind a quilt yesterday and what did I fine sitting on the shelf?  My 3-D flowers….I forgot to get them ready and mail them last week when I was in town almost daily.  Now plans for this week to mostly just stay home.  But I pckaged then up and set them on top of my purse so when I do go out I won’t forget them.  My Chiropractor’s office called and said he already had my MRI report back (just...

Growing 3-D Flowers in September

In September, we’re making 3-D Flower blocks designed by you with a few rules so our flowers look like they might be found in the same garden (or play nicely in the same quilt). I used an appliqué technique learned from Pat Campbell in a cold January workshop in Michigan, long, long ago. To begin, I made the diagonal slashes which defined my bloom placement. I cut green bias which...

Abstractions of Roses in Art, Fashion and Quilts

This is a detail photo from a friend’s guest room. I stayed there a few weeks ago, when I was visiting Austin and looking for a place to live.  I couldn’t help but notice how these seemingly simple smudges of paint effectively convey the idea of roses. You can see a (rather poor) photo of the entire painting in my Flickr photostream here. Flowers were a design theme in fashion this Spring  . . .  here is one example...
