Playing with African violets

Today I did my block for the July (!) Bee I am in. One of the requirement for the block was to make a flower in the block so I thought I would use the African violet block from the blocklotto last month that I DIDN’T win as I loved that block so much and Sophie had nicely provided instructions for different sizes of blocks. I followed Ellie’s exampleof a pansy block but modified it slightly when I realised I made a mistake in the cutting!

I used the triangles off-cuts of my pansy to make the tiny pinwheel blocks

You can see the finished block on my blog.
Although this is slightly off-topic, I hope it is OK to post this here, otherwise please let me know and I’ll delete this post.

  1. Projects that are Inspired by a lotto block aren't at all off-topic. I saw the block on your blog earlier and I'm glad you decided to also share it here.

For future reference, sharing photos with setting ideas are also welcome posts.

  2. thanks Sophie. I think this is my favorite block from the whole block lotto and your instructions with different sizes are very handy. Thanks for your hard work.

  3. the first thing I thought when I saw this was….butterflies. Inspiring block for sure!

  4. Good share, it inspires other projects, and that's great ~
    :-}pokey

  5. I hadn't seen the butterfly until you spelt it out but it is another idea So many interpretations for this block.

  6. I didn't see the butterfly until Julie pointed it out either–and then it was obvious … and I started thinking about how to make a not paper-pieced version of this butterfly.

  7. I like it! I think it looks even better with the modification!
