sampler thoughts

I don’t have any pictures to show, but I have made a pink and white version of each of the 2012 blocks, with the intent that they will be the outer ring  of a sampler quilt, with the inner border being made of the pink and white “terms of endearment” blocks I won in 2011.  I’m thinking the center will be either a large scrappy heart (using the pink fabrics against white) or 4 hearts with their points together at the center.  I need to pull the blocks out and play with them, and then I’ll share a photo. (room is a bit of a jumble at the moment).

As to 2013 and the new blocks, I’m wondering if the year’s blocks made in multiples would work as a row quilt, with 6 blocks across if tall-way, and 4 blocks across if short-way.  Without sashing, that would be a 36-inch wide row, but the quilt might be rather long if 12 rows were made.

I’m thinking of using my red and green Christmas stash, with white background since I’ve never made a Christmas quilt.

  1. I have been thinking about a 6 x 6 layout, with all tall blocks. That would measure 36 ” x 54″ before you add any sashing or borders. You could make three of each month’s block and arrange them randomly or, in a more organized fashion, two blocks alternating in each row.

  2. You could also use each month’s pattern in multiples and do a series of borders around a center, a differnt block pattern for each border, 4 different patterned borders per round — some set tall and horizontal borders set wide and squatty just a thought ..
