This is Sierra – she’s a bit grumpy

I found this pattern on Craftsy for free, it’s by Jennifer Ofenstein at Sewhooked.com. The original was 5″, so I scaled it up to 9″. I wonder if I should have just put a background border around it. Maybe I’ll try another one. I have three pets and hope to make a block for each of them – I have all month to get them done. I am worried that it will be difficult to part with my pet portraits – does anyone else...

A finished quilt – June 2014 blocks

A finished quilt – June 2014 blocks

I finished my Sunshine quilt made up of 15 blocks won in June 2014 (the block was called “sunrise”). While many of you are heading towards the longest day of the year, I am heading towards the shortest day. And, although sunshine is not unusual in Auckland in the winter time, there’s not nearly enough of it for my taste – this quilt should help. For more detail, check out the blog posts I’ve done along the way,...

Two pairs done

Two pairs done

Here are my four blocks for the draw. I hope to do a few more pairs, but my blue fabrics all seem a little too turquoise. I do have some smaller pieces that I might fit by using strips rather than the big squares. We’ll see how it...

3 blocks done

3 blocks done

I put together three blocks this month. I know I say it all of the time, but I was surprised how well these have turned out. I wasn’t convinced that I wanted to make any but I am so glad that I did. The colors are lovely and remind me of a pansy on a cloudy day (that reminds me, I need to plant out the pots in front of the house for the colder months – pansies might be the perfect...

one flower block

one flower block

For the second month in a row I thought I might not make a block. I did manage one though. I had trouble with the iron-on stuff with some of my batiks – it was like they absorbed all of the adhesive and did not stick at all. I always pre-wash but I wonder if there was something that was causing the problem (left over waxy residue of some sort?). Anyone else have trouble? I’m donating this month’s...

Three sweet dreams

Three sweet dreams

I had fun putting 2 of these blocks together – my mother, who is visiting, did the third. All three will go in the draw for me, if I win, maybe I’ll have to give the finished quilt to my mom. I am tempted to make more because I am envisioning some interesting secondary patterns to emerge from the red corners. I’ll see if I have time this...
