Machine Appliqué Heart

Posted by on February 1, 2012 in blocks | 3 comments

I’ve seen heart blocks like this and figured it would be easy enough to draw my own for a 9 inch block. I used freezer paper templates, like I described here:

Using Templates for Machine Appliqué

Someone asked today what I meant exactly by “no raw edge appliqué”.  For the purposes of this month’s blocks, it means that if you use appliqué technique, the edges of the appliqué must be turned under.  (I’ll go update the guidelines post now.)

Thanks for asking and keeping me on my toes 🙂

On a sort of related note, heart shapes are GREAT for learning/practicing “turned under” appliqué techniques, whether it’s needle turn by hand or machine appliqué.

  1. I LOVE this! I too wondered about the kind of applique allowed, now i’m gonna have to give this a try!

  2. Love this.

    • Thank you. I will probably make a couple more of these using different fabrics because I’m pretty happy with how it came out, too 😉
