Inspired by Block Lotto

When Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast earlier this fall, I wanted to do something to help.  As a quilter, you know what that means – make quilts!  I wanted to give others an opportunity to help out, so I needed a block that would be quick and easy to make, but also forgiving, easily able to be trimmed down to a different size if multiple quilters sent not-quite-the-same-size blocks in.  I loved the Disappearing 4-patch block that you all made a while ago, so I adapted that for my project and waited to see if any quilt blocks would come in.  Boy did they!  To date, I’ve received more than 1500 quilt blocks from around the world – all around the US, Canada, Panama, Spain, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.  I thought I’d share some photos with you of the quilts that you guys inspired that have been distributed in NY and NJ to keep people warm and bring comfort after the storm.
