String Blocks = Chicken Soup?

String Blocks = Chicken Soup?

Making these was a lovely diversion from all my Christmas prep (or procrastination about it). Once I got into the “swing of the strings”, it became a good healing. Didn’t seem to diminish my stash by much, but it was nice to make something exotic out of my scrap basket. I’d love to win...

What I Really, Really Want for 2017 Block Lotto

Well, first of all, I’m a big fan, even though I don’t play every month. I like the simple blocks the best and the paper-pieced blocks the least. I like the colors Sophie specifies — she keeps track of what we’ve done and spreads the colors nicely around. And the 6-1/2″ blocks are the best for me and for the mail. As far as the mystery block and quilt-a-longs, they just don’t appeal to me. I’d rather...

Barn Doors on their Way

I sent three barn door blocks to each of the winners for September — Barbara, Julie and Teresa. Had to argue with the postal clerk about the packets, but they finally sent them as “large envelopes” for 94 cents each. If anyone gets one with the postage due, please let me know. And, by the way, they are very SMALL envelopes.

Nine Fine Barn Doors

I was able to complete the full quota this month. We are having an endless summer here in Michigan, so the beach keeps beckoning and the water is perfect for swimming. But it was fun to make a bunch of these barn door blocks — and this time I’ll put them into the drawing for a chance to win. Thanks, Sophie, for another enjoyable...

Nine Bulls Eyes for June

Nine Bulls Eyes for June

Here are my blocks for June. Although I love them and would have fun making a quilt with these loopy blocks, I am up to my eyebrows with butterflies, robins (the round kind), and bees. So I am donating them to the lucky...

Winged Migration in Process

Butterflies are flying in from all points – Christa in Virginia, Julianne and Mary S. in California, Laura and Peggy in Georgia, Marianne in Florida, Nann in Illinois, Robin in Mississippi (wow, typing that reminds me of grade school spelling bees), Susan in Tennessee, Teresa in Texas, and Myrna, just over the bridge here at home in Michigan. Thank you all for such beautifully made blocks. I have let the milkweed grow wild here on my sand...

One Lonely Butterfly

One Lonely Butterfly

I guess I could have said one “lovely” butterfly, but my finger slipped. Maybe I’ll find time to keep it from being quite so lonely, but if not, here it is. And I’ll be glad to have a chance in the drawing because these blocks are so very pretty and orange is one of my favorite...

Finished my Black/White Nine-Patches

Finished my Black/White Nine-Patches

Here is the third Block Lotto quilt finished. It took a lot of design wall play to figure out how these blocks wanted to live together. The blocks looked better to me when they were “fenced in” with my hand-dyed fabrics. Each one became its own quilt — and the workmanship showed up so nicely. My long-arm quilter, Charlene Koppenol, designed the pattern for the dark blocks. It looks like globes and fits the international flavor...
