8 Blocks and 3 Reminders

I told myself that I wouldn’t post my blocks until I had removed the paper foundations from the three blocks that were paper-pieced.  And that’s my first reminder for everyone–if you choose to paper piece, all that paper has to be removed before you send your blocks to the winner(s).

The good news is that the paper came out pretty easily.  The not-so-good news for me is that when I sprayed a little starch and pressed one of those paper-pieced blocks, the light colored, pre-washed, commercial hand-dyed fabric that I used for skin ran.  Grumble, grumble. I hope I can gentle hand-wash it with some Synthrapol and fix it … until then, I have 7 blocks donated for this month.  Reminder #2 is if you see a problem with your blocks or they don’t measure up, don’t include them in the lotto.

DSCN2135Speaking of measuring up, while there is some leeway this month in how you “dress” your Boomer, but remember that a couple things at the top of your block must remain constant:

  • 1/4-inch seam allowance at the top of the triangle head
  • triangle head is 1-inch tall and 2″ wide (after sewn into the block)
  • neck is 1/2-inch square
  • outstretched arms are 1/2-inch wide
  • measurement from the top edge of the block to the bottom edge of the arms is 2 1/4-inches
