One Spiky for Now

One Spiky for Now

I’ve been on a self-imposed non-sewing regime for nearly two months (stolen laptop+insufficient back-ups=megaton of work to catch up)…. and decided enough was enough… make a block!  I can’t believe how this one simple thing has lifted me out of the misery!   So, here is the one block for July, but do hope to make more time tomorrow to do a couple more.  This block was not too difficult to do, so I’m wondering why...

I tried and have one to donate

I tried and have one to donate

I made three in order from left to right. I think only the one on the right qualifies as spiky but, gosh, it only takes up half of the block.   The other two lost most of their spikiness  when I squared them up. I tried but just can’t seem to get the hang of them and I had a lot of waste.  I’ll try a few more for my QAL when I have a chance.   Cathy L in...

Lots of Envelopes …

I have been remiss in writing here, but between 24 June and 8 July I have received envelopes from Kristin, Robin, Sophie and Julie (24/6), Laura and Kathy (28/6), Margaret (29/6), Su (4/7), Linda and Teresa (6/7) and Debbie (8/7).  Thank-you all for participating in this happy process.  There is still one more envelope to come, and then the grand opening will happen.   (Still quite busy with life, so trying to avoid quilt distractions.) There...

Thank you to Sharon, Pat, Moira, Laurina and Laura-your lovely blocks have arrived in NZ.  I have also completed one spiky block and hope to make another tomorrow.  I had to go and buy some more lime green fabric. My plant din’t quite end up in the middle-hope to do better next time.  I will donate my blocks this time...

A Trip Down Memory Lane

I took a look of the quilts that were made and posted by winners and participants of the Blocklotto.  My gosh, what a beautiful collection of quilts! I know I have more than a couple of UFOs and gallon sized bags from the winnings of Blocklotto over the years.  Time to spring those beauties out of confinement and get them done.  Anyone for a done by Oct. / Nov. group...

Four sets of spiky leaves with one having the spikes chopped off

Four sets of spiky leaves with one having the spikes chopped off

Here are my four spiky leaf blocks for this month. The first I made is the one on the bottom left (pink background). For the solid lime green leaves I cut the bias strips from an 8 inch high fabric piece, for the dotty ones were from a 5 inch high piece. The shorter lengths of bias  worked better when the block was trimmed to the required final size. I am still not confident that I understood the process. Apologies for seams being more than...

July Leaf

July Leaf

Here is one block to donate for July.   After looking at the directions and saying no way!  I remembered why I was doing Block Lotto to begin with…  to be challenged to try new things!  Turns out  it was much easier than I thought.  Just follow the directions step by step and you will have a block.  I thought I might need to rip out so I sewed in basting stitches to start but I didn’t need to.  I will make a few more before the...
