Squares or Little Windows? You Decide
For the Block Lotto this month, the four small squares in the Little Windows block can be scrappy squares cut from multiple fabrics or fussy-cut motifs. And since it’s my personal belief that you can add black & white prints to almost anything, we’ll be using those for the frame around our Little Windows.
Kate made this one.
The directions for making the 7 inch (finished size) block are here:
Add the tag windows to all your blog posts about this block. The category should be blocks when you are posting photos of your blocks to enter them in the drawing; use the category sent and received when you are posting about mailing or receiving blocks; and the category show and tell to share projects you make from this block (whether they are lotto blocks or blocks you make for yourself.
This Little Windows block is made from one or more WINDOW fabrics of your choice, combined with a Black & White prints for the FRAME around the windows.
The WINDOW fabric is completely your choice. You can use 1, 2, 3 or 4 fabrics for the small squares in a single block. You might to decide to use something with a motif and fussy cut it or not. You may have some small scraps (or pre-cut 2 1/2 inch squares) and you could use four of them for one block. The fabric may be solid, print, batik … in any style and any color(s). As long as it’s quilting quality cotton, it’s acceptable to use for the WINDOW fabric.
The FRAME fabric should be a single black & white print. Your fabric must have both black and white (and no other colors) but can be mostly black or mostly white. Use a single FRAME fabric in each block.
If you make multiple blocks, you can use the same B&W FRAME fabric in multiple blocks, but each WINDOW fabric should be unique or a unique combination if you use more than one fabric in your windows.
You make make a maximum of NINE blocks to enter into the drawing.
This virtual Little Windows quilt is made from blocks photos from Christa, Deana, Debbie, Ginny, Julie P, Kate, Laurie, Laurina, Nann, Peggy and me. Don’t forget that even if you have emailed me photos of your blocks and they appear here, you must post them in order to added to the list for the drawing at the end of August.
Thank you to everyone who made and photographed their blocks to make this possible.
The QAL update will be published mid-month. In the meantime, here’s the number of the month’s blocks you’ll need for each of the 6 quilt sizes:
|Little Windows Blocks||2||6||9||11||14||25|
In the quilts, the little windows blocks will sometimes appear on their own, or may be are sewn together to form pairs, a three-block chain or a 4-patch.
