Quilt Holder Needed

Must be tall, long-armed, and willing to make endless adjustments of stance. Photo styling experience a plus.

Here is the 9-Patch Plaid, all put together! To avoid seam matching hysteria, I continued the 1″ border between every square and around the outside edge. That dark area in the middle is only a shadow.

Now all it needs is a border and I am stumped. According to my figuring, the border needs to be  4.5″ finished. No plain blue fabric that I can find looks good, and I haven’t been able to locate a print that works either. So it’s going to have to be some kind of pieced border. All suggestions appreciated.

  1. How about a black or black & white print border, maybe with a narrow inner border in light blue or white?

FYI, I moved your post into the show & tell category (when your quilt is done, we can substitute the post with the finish in the gallery.) I also posted it on the Block Lotto Facebook page, so you may get some border suggestions there.

  2. How about no border at all?? You did a terrific job with this and if it were me, I’d open a bottle of vintage Champagne and drink it all!

  3. I think it looks great the way it is. Plain borders actually (in MHO) date a quilt. Yours is exciting right to the edges.

  4. I like it the way it is now too -I would not put a border on it.

  5. I think I would add a black border so the busy-ness of the quilt’s interior is anchored down. Any blue would pull your eyes to the border …. I think plain solid black in a 3″ or a 4″ or so border and then narrow binders the same would look nice.
Backing? Some kind of bright print or tonal like orange or even a mixed blue print tht reads “blue” — or a black and white print.

Love how the quilt turned out!

  6. Who says it needs a border? I like it the way it is.
