Sophie’s Birds in the Snow

Was anyone wondering what the story was when they saw the photo of my blocks outside on the deck in the snow?

(I cannot believe that my landlord disagreed with me when I told him he really needed to maintain the deck …)

The photo was a silly idea I had when I was making the blocks after reading a Rainbow Scraps post to double check the color of the month there–if you’re curious about the backstory, I blogged about it today on Sophie Junction:

Scrappy Synchronicity

I kind of like it … so you may see more blocks in the wild photos this year 🙂

If you look closely at these four blocks–donated with no chances–you can see that I used a blue-on-white text print in one for the SKY fabric in one block (and the same WOW print for the other three) and that the purple block was made using the alternate 9-patch construction. Of the BIRD fabrics, one is solid, two are batiks and one is a tone-on-tone print.

For what it’s worth, I found that the alternate method took me longer because there’s more cutting, more seams to sew and intersections to (try to) match.  But as far as the visual, I think those extra seams disappear and they all play nicely together and you have to look hard to see the differences (which will be even less after the winners quilts are quilted.
