A quilting design idea for Kim

A quilting design idea for Kim

Since your table topper is made from big 12 inch blocks, in addition to stippling in the black background, I’d add some stitching in the violets–you could do something more intricate and precise, but even a few swooping lines in each petal shape like in this really poor drawing-with-a-mouse picture could work, I think. I usually opt for something curvy and organic looking when the block is leaves or flowers, but a quilt design that...

Long Summer

I had this pattern up on my desktop for days, and I was sure I was going to find time to make it. I love it! My son arrived about 10 days ago and is filling up my sewing room. At long last, after a summer of hoping, my house is closing tomorrow and I’ll be moving this coming week. I’ve had to admit to myself that I’m just not going to find a time to make even one. But . . . I have a sewing room in the house, and hope to catch...

A Post Office Shocker

A Post Office Shocker

I confess that one of the reasons I mailed my blocks (checkerboards to Pokey and Shannon) so late this month was that I was dreading the trip downtown to what looked to be the closest PO to my new apartment.  Then, last week,  the receptionist at the office told me about one in an adjacent town that was pretty close (and had lots of parking).  Even though I drove by to check the Saturday hours one night earlier in the week, when...

How would you quilt these violets? (one block for Kim H.)

How would you quilt these violets? (one block for Kim H.)

I’m going out of town this week and loved this month’s pattern so much that I tried to make a table topper for my host, who loves flowers. Sadly, my back started giving me trouble, so there is only ONE block for Black Lotto (Kim H.) and four 12″ blocks for me. At least I got in for the sneak peek deadline. But this does give me some time to think about how to quilt the top. I had thought to follow the outline of the flower and...

OOPS! Newbie’s first *3* Violet blocks

OOPS! Newbie’s first *3* Violet blocks

Sorry about posting repeats of fabric in my first (and now deleted) post. I must remember to read all the rules multiple times since I completely missed the “unique fabric” rule. So these are my first three entries to Blocklotto. The white one is really cream with white print and yes, the green one IS green. I dislike green violets but I did have the right shade of green for the block. I raise violets and have 50 or more right now....

Blog Author Housekeeping

If you haven’t made blocks in the past few months and have made less than 10 blocks for the year so far, you have been removed from the authors list to make room for newbies who have made blocks. I think one measure of how well I’ve chosen a block/color choice is the number of  email messages I receiving asking about the block and/or asking to join the block lotto.  There have been about a dozen this month–though not...
