Sophie’s Scrap Reduction Project (10 blocks)

Here’s the familiar block–the sample I made for the directions. The red pin dot and the black-on-black were already on the cutting table, both were either used in or considered for the Holiday Lane pillow I recently finished. The red/white/black print came out of my scrap bins … as did all the fabrics I used for the rest of my blocks.

We haven’t always had a December block for the block lotto because I hate to add anything that looks like stress or obligation to this busy time of year. By having a pretty wide open scrappy fabric requirement, I’m hoping that everyone that likes the block can make one or a few from whatever fabric is out on their work table or easily available from their stash … or like me, in their scrap bins.

Look close and you’ll see solids, prints, hand dyes, novelty prints, texture prints, geometric prints, and plaids 😉  Yes I had fun putting together the expected and unlikely combinations together for this group of blocks.

  1. Yanno, Sophie, thanks a lot. I need a new project like I need a hole in the head.

But since I’m cutting 30’s prints, I can really see a great scrappy quilt with 30’s prints for the stars and complementary lights & darks for the background and sashing. Maybe I’ll just cut and kit while I have the fabrics out; that won’t take too much time, right? Right?
