Pennsylvania Oak Leaves
I loved making this block because I have a favorite oak tree that has come to the end of its life. We have a cottage on Lake Erie that has an oak tree in the back yard that must be over 200 years old. It is huge. We have a great swing hanging from one of its limbs which is a well-used reading spot by everyone. Last year we noticed that there was a black substance oozing from the bark. This summer it is worse, the bark is starting to peel off and there were many fewer leaves. The tree experts say that it must come down. So, when we arrive next spring, it will be gone. I hope we can plant another in its place for the people who live there 200 years from now. Here are my 4 Oak Leaves in memory of my Lake Erie Oak.

What a lovely idea–to plant an oak, knowing that it will be enjoyed long after you’re gone.
