Read MoreLately, whenever I am looking for something else, I see sail boat/tall ships quilts. These two are from the book Quilts: Masterworks from the American Folk Art Museum. The sailboat block in both quilts is the same (a shorter version of this month’s lotto block) which makes the contrast between the two quilts even more interesting–one seems to lean toward the Gees Bend style, the other feels purely Amish. Our winners this...
Read MoreI was flipping through a book looking for something else, when I saw this quilt … and had to share. These blocks are wider than ours, but similar enough that I think you can easily see how effective this quilt design is … with plain sashing and borders. If you had a set of our lotto blocks, you could choose whether to go white or blue for that sashing and borders. I think the reverse blocks (whichever way) would give this classic...
Read MoreDespite all the things gone wrong and Grace the cat’s interference help, late last night, I finished this doll quilt, made from 4-inch wonky fly blocks. We made a larger version of the Wonky Shoo Fly block for the lotto in April 2010. Way back when (3 years ago), I made the blocks from the small scraps left on my table after making those loving free-pieced words–some of which ended up in my quilt, Whole Lotta Love. The floral print is...
Read MoreIf only our weekends really were 4 days long, like the window for sharing a link as part of Weekend Update, right? Although the designated topic weekend is NEXT week, I probably will be sharing some thing un-quilty, because lately the quilting isn’t going so well. I finally have a functional Bernina again and thought I’d finish the wonky shoo fly doll quilt I was working on at the beginning of the year. First I ran out of thread. I...
Read MoreIf you made blocks in May, you should have received an email message from me with the mailing info for the Trio of Geese Blocks. Please take a quick look to make sure that the number of block I have attributed to you is correct and let me know ASAP if you find an error. Winners, please also check that your name and address at the top of the page are correct–even though you all individually confirmed your addresses with me. Mistakes can happen...
Read MoreI’m almost ready to send out the mailing directions for the May blocks to everyone. I’ve heard from Karen in South Africa, so, yes, lotto blocks will be traveling there for the first time ever. One of the other winners wants to split her booty with someone who has never won … and so I am not waiting for confirmation from that non-winner that she wants the blocks and that the address I have for her is still current and correct....
Read MoreAs I wait to hear back from one of the May winners to confirm her mailing address and let me know how many blocks she’d like to keep, it seems like a good time to remind everyone who wants to win blocks that you have to check the Block Lotto site or your Email and get back to me within 2 days … or a new name will be chosen and you won’t win after all. If you cannot be available or won’t have access, please let me know...
Read MoreI made the nine blocks on the cover of the Tall Ship Directions. I’ll be donating my blocks to the pot for the lucky winners’ fleet of...
Read MoreOur June lotto block is this 6 by 9-inch (finished size) variation of a traditional ship block. It is proportionally narrower and taller than the traditional versions, so I’m calling it Tall Ship. This block is from my fleet of Tall Ship blocks. Download the print-friendly directions for making the block here: Tall Ship Quilt Block This block contains eight triangle squares (aka half-square triangles or HSTs). The directions include an...
Read MoreIn May, 2013, 30 quilters made 189 Trio of Geese blocks. This post archives the blocks made and who made them. Congratulations again to our winners: Julie, Karen, Kathy and Terry. Read MoreWow. May really came and went quickly … and when the weekend officially arrives on Saturday, it will be June. My weekend plan is to do some spring cleaning and re-arranging in the studio. How about you? Please share a link using the linky tool below. I’m hoping that I don’t encounter any more of the cats’ new friends. I think this little New Mexico whiptail lizard followed me into the house Wednesday. Johnny...
