Flying Geese as … Trees

Flying Geese as … Trees

Seriously … I keep seeing our blocks everywhere. This one was at a quilt shop (and Bernina dealer) in Albuquerque. It’s called Alpine Forest. I took my Bernina back to the shop after talking with someone in their booth at the Fiber Arts Fiesta over the weekend.  It took me more than two hours to drive there and back.  The mechanic identified and fixed the problem at the counter in less than a minute.  Let’s hope this fix lasts...

Another Flying Geese Design Idea

Another Flying Geese Design Idea

Angie shared a link to these blocks in a comment and I thought it was worth sharing in a post of it’s own. It came from Gail Bong Quilts Too   If you added a 3 1/2 inch by 9 1/2 inch rectangle to the left side of our May block to create a 9-inch (finished size) square, then put four of them together to form blocks like these, you’d make an 18 inch version of this block, which would have all the dark geese in the center and the...

I keep seeing Flying Geese

I keep seeing Flying Geese

Maybe it’s because it’s this month block.  I keep noticing Flying Geese in quilts and quilt blocks everywhere. Here’s a couple more. This is one of the Random Quilt-a-Long blocks that I found on the Blooming Workshop blog. These blocks at 6 inches, square, but If you started with two of this month’s lotto blocks to make a block like the one on the right, you’d end up with a big 18 inch heart.  I think one of those...

Weekend Update – May 24-27

Although it’s officially a month away in the northern hemisphere, in some part of the US, Memorial Day is the unofficial beginning of Summer.  Around here, it’s only just begun to feel like Spring outside. I grew up in Michigan being told that nothing gets planted outside until after Memorial day … and then heard the same thing in Santa Fe last year.  I won’t be planting much–drought conditions here (and a broken gray...

June Sneak Peek

If  you have posted May blocks, you should have received a (slightly early) email message from me with a sneak peek at the June lotto block. If you were planning to post your blocks in the next 12 hours to make the deadline for the sneak peek, don’t worry … you can still do that and I’ll make sure you get the info.  I just thought I’d make sure that anyone in the US who is planning to find some time to sew during the...

16-Patch Picnic Quilt

16-Patch Picnic Quilt

I don’t know why I started thinking of this quilt as a “picnic” quilt–the landscape here rarely includes any sort of green lawn on which to spread out a quilt and enjoy a meal … but if I ever find myself living in such a place again, I’ll be ready.   Coincidentally, this is my back “yard” and the view from the studio space in my house. Like the scrappy 16-patch blocks we made for the Block Lotto in...

Weekend Update – May 17 – 20

Weekend Update – May 17 – 20

Painters are returning to my house today to repaint the ceiling (after repairing some damage from a leak).  My week so far has included a lot of furniture moving–most of my living room/dining room furniture is now in the kitchen and studio.   I expect to spend a good chunk of my weekend cleaning up the mess that contractors/repair people always seem to leave behind no matter how neat they are and moving everything back. I’d much rather be...

Weekend Update – Share Your Process

Weekend Update – Share Your Process

The theme this weekend is Sharing Your Process.  Please link to a blog article that shows us some part of your quilt-making process. FYI, I don’t necessarily mean sharing a tutorial you’ve written or some terrific tip on how to do something.  Sometimes, by transparently sharing how you do what you do, maybe sharing your frustrations, dislikes or questions about why we are taught to do something a certain way, or asking if...

Sophie’s Flock of Birds has Flown and a Reminder about Categories

I mailed my Bird blocks at the end of the day yesterday to the lucky winners.  I am looking forward to see what you make from these fun blocks. As a reminder, when you post about mailing your blocks to the winners or receiving the blocks you’ve won, select the category sent and received.  The tag should be the same tag designated for the blocks. If you incorrectly check the category blocks–which should only be used for posting photos of...

Flying Geese Ideas

Flying Geese Ideas

I wanted to share a couple quilts I’ve found in blog-land and another one of mine that use flying geese that stuck to give you some ideas about the possibilities of our simple Trio of Geese blocks. I found this one on Anne Marie Horner’s blog. I like how the solid fabrics are used to create some space between the flying geese … and, of course, those tassels 😉 If you like this arrangement and win the geese lotto blocks,...

Catching up as fast as I can …

If you made blocks in April, you should have received THREE email messages from me today with the mailing info. (The second has claimed to have the CORRECTED mailing info sheet attached, but didn’t.  The third one IS corrected).   If you should have received the mail and didn’t or find another mistake, please let me know ASAP. I have updated the at-a-glance page with the May info. And, once, again, here are the ten blocks I’ve...
