Well…many, many moons ago, I won a batch of bird blocks in the lotto (April 2013, to be precise). They sat around for a long time waiting for a “special occasion”. I pulled one out last year to use as a starting block for a round robin swap, but otherwise, nothing. But finally, I got around to using some of them (about half, I’d say) in a baby quilt. I had a harder time with fabrics for this block than I thought I might – apparently I don’t have many bluey greens. This one is far greener than it looks in the photo, though.  I’m hoping that some of my reds & oranges are ok, even though they have quite a bit of other colour in them – if not, please let me know and I’ll withdraw them.  Actually, I’m donating them to the pot anyway, so I don’t...

I did make a couple of blocks for the lotto this month, but not minding my scant seams closely enough, they’ve come up a little small, so I’m not going to offer them up. Still, it was a fun block, and one I might try again when I’m in the mood to de-stash my scraps…  I do think I’ll think harder about the balance of the colours if I try them again, as I’m not convinced these work that well anyway, regardless...

  Apparently, I don’t own a lot of orphan blocks – and the ones I do own, are quite large.  In all my various bits and pieces, I could only really find these two small blocks which were small enough to form the foundation of a couple of February blocks.   This was a fun block, and simple to construct, though it looks much more complicated (my favourite kind). I did find my blocks a tiny bit small -1/8″ inch or so – and though I know that’s within the acceptable range, it annoys me, and prompts me to check (next time I sew) if my quarter inch foot is actually aligning properly or whether something is slightly out.  Nothing is ever...

Four blocks going in the post tomorrow to Susan – luckily, I wasn’t as speedy in mailing them as I sometimes am, so I was able to make certain they were going to Rock Bridge Lane, not Rock Ridge Lane.  Hopefully they won’t be too long, but it will probably take at least a week to arrive.

My three sets finally went in the post yesterday. They went to Mary and the Canadian and Australian winners – be on the lookout ladies, though it will probably be at least a week.
