October Block — Halloween Spooky Gallery –Square in a Square in a Square Block
Hi! I’m Linda Newman from Dallas, and this month we’re going to do a really easy block that lets you play with those Halloween and Day of the Dead novelty fabrics from your stash, along with the orange, black, grey, white, purple and lime green colors that our fabric designers have “decreed” as the official Halloween colors. (This is my first try at writing directions for a block or quilt, so apologies in advance for any gaps or confusion, or if I over explain obvious things for experienced quilters. Linda’s block arrived in today’s mail. I’ve received all the U.S. poppies — just waiting for the transoceanic bunch to get here! Thanks for the Duluth postcard, Linda. We’ve been there twice on Road Scholar trips — 2005 at UW-Superior and 2011 at Naniboujou Lodge. (And I highly recommend Northland, by Porter Fox. He traveled the length of the U.S. / Canada border from Passmaquoddy Bay to the Strait of Georgia. Geography, history, and current affairs all in one.)

Ladies, I have discovered the perils of deciding my plate was just a little too full this month and skipping the basket blocks. I nearly forgot to send my California Poppies block off to Nann! It’s in the mail today, you should have it early next week. Sorry! Instead, I was busy sewing together my Rail Fence variation blocks. I’m almost to the flimsy stage, I’ll show it off when I get it there, it might take me a lot longer to get it quilted and bound.

Final Poppies Blocks Received
Over the last couple days, I received California Poppies blocks from Peggy M and Linda N. This completes everything I was to receive. Thank you, ladies, for stitching these lovely blocks and participating in this wonderful group. I plan to sew an additional 8 blocks (to total 48) and set them with sashing. I hope to have a flimsy to share early next month. Thanks again!

In the past week I have received Noon Light blocks from Angie N, Barbara P, Linda N and Kathleen T … thank you so much ladies, they are all beautiful! I guess our incoming postal system is starting to move again as these were all mailed in early May!
