I’m still in shock…

I hope it is ok to post this here. I haven’t gotten to play the lotto in quite a while. But I continue to follow along and love seeing everyone’s creations. A few years ago when I was just learning to quilt I started playing the Blocklotto. I found a little community that is supportive and encouraging. And I learned so many great techniques and even won a couple of times. One of the techniques I learned was building a string quilt....

One for me.

One for me.

I managed to find time to make one block. I made a foundation piecing pattern for the block and found that to work well. I hope I have time for more! I would love to win this...

Remember to wash your red!

Remember to wash your red!

I know that Sophie already mentioned it. But I thought it was worth a reminder since I was one of the people who had a problem with red and white blocks in the past. I won what I think is called a Disappearing 4 Patch in red and white back in 2011. It made a beautiful quilt! But a couple of blocks bled pretty significantly after I washed the quilt. I can’t tell you how disappointing that was! I spent a lot of time and effort getting the...

Just one for me.

Just one for me.

This was a really easy block and I love the graphic appeal of the jewel tones on black. But I only had time for one this month. (Please excuse the poor picture, my iPhone was not cooperating.) I’ve been busy with a couple of other quilts. I just finished this baby quilt for a friend at work who has just adopted a little girl. But my friend hates pink, so I went with a more modern palate. My latest project will be a Christmas gift for my...

Another way to make the Woven Bars Block

Another way to make the Woven Bars Block

When I first read Sophie’s instructions to make this block I could see another way to construct it. So I did a little calculating and cut my fabrics, then took some photos as I went along to show how I constructed it. And it does work. I was pretty sure that Sophie had probably already thought of this and when I emailed it to her, she confirmed my suspicion. Though she couldn’t recall why she decided to go with the method she chose....

Sweet dreams on their way!

I actually mailed mine on Thursday, but I forgot to post it. It should be to you, Kathleen, any day now. I’m so jealous! I really loved this block. And I know that Sophie will remind me that I can of course make my own set. But I’ll have a hard time making it with as wide a range of fabrics. Which is a big part of what makes Block Lotto quilts so wonderful. It takes scrappy to a different level. Congrats Kathleen! Make something...

Sweet Dreams and a paper piecing discovery

Sweet Dreams and a paper piecing discovery

I found some paper at Wal-Mart that works really well for paper piecing. Carol Doak is the queen of paper piecing. She sells a paper for this technique that is easy to sew on and still easy to tear. I’ve found that the Manila Artist’s Drawing Paper that Wal-Mart sells is very similar to the Carol Doak paper. And it is only $0.99 for a package of 50 sheets! Here are the 2 blocks I’ve made so far with the cheaper...
