Weekend Update

Weekend Update

I have been distracted by life too much this week and will be spending part of my weekend playing catch-up with Block Lotto tasks … I also hope to find time to run out for some batting so I can start quilting this crib quilt made from bird, house and flying geese blocks. How about you? Share a link below on any topic.  For me, the best part of reading quilter’s blogs is getting those “slice of life” glimpses that...

Six Houses from Sophie

Six Houses from Sophie

Here’s my contribution to the neighborhood. I also found this “easy” block challenging.  I think it’s a great idea for an I-Spy quilt or for borders and table runners,  but it took practice for me to produce a house and occupants with pleasing proportions.   The rounded door of the dogs’ house and the circle attic window in the fish house were appliquéd.  I used the freezer paper and glue method...

My Tall Ship Blocks Have Sailed – Have Yours?

My Tall Ship Blocks Have Sailed – Have Yours?

I mailed my June blocks to Maree, Nann and Vivi yesterday. If you haven’t yet mailed your blocks, please get them in the mail soon.  They are, once again, in most cases, sailing across the globe to the winners, so let’s make sure to send them on their way...

A Setting Idea from a Commercial Pattern

A Setting Idea from a Commercial Pattern

I saw a photo of this quilt on a fabric company’s site and thought … setting idea.  You could add black strips to each side of our blocks and put them together in a straight set for a similar effect to Aardvark Quilts’ Domiciles. If you needed additional blocks, you could make some smaller houses and put them together as 4-patches like the ones in this quilt...

Weekend Update – July 5-8

Weekend Update – July 5-8

I think I may be spending my weekend recovering from my Fourth of July.  This is a photo from Pancakes on the Plaza in Santa Fe, a yearly July 4 tradition and fundraiser. Although it seemed a lot less crowded than last year, thee were still plenty of people eating pancakes everywhere.    And after some much needed recent rain, everything looked so lush and green. How about you? Share a recent link from your blog below. NEXT weekend will be the...

In July, A Neighborhood Party of I-Spy Houses

In July, A Neighborhood Party of I-Spy Houses

In July, we’ll be using a basic house shape as a frame for I-Spy images to create a row of houses with interesting occupants and other items. This 6-inch by 9-inch (finished size) simple house block is a simple house outline with fussy cut fabrics used for door and/or window(s). Directions for the basic approach are here: I-Spy House Block Directions Block Guidelines All our blocks should have the following characteristics: The block is 6...

Weekend Update – June 21-24

Weekend Update – June 21-24

Summer is officially here in the northern hemisphere. This sad looking coneflower from my yard is showing the effects of too much wind and not enough rain around here, but it still says summer to me. Assuming the winds stay at a manageable level, I may celebrate summer this weekend by taking some paint, dyes and printing supplies out to the patio to play.  How about you? Join others in the block lotto community and share a link from your blog...

Share Something UN-Quilty – Weekend Update Linky Party

If you have ever made lotto blocks and have a blog I know about, I follow you.  I love seeing everyone’s quilt projects … and also learning about whatever else interests you or is going on in your life.  It’s for that reason that  the topic for this weekend’s linky party is UN-quilty. Please join the party by adding a link to a recent blog post of yours about something besides quilting.   Johnny the cat dares you....

Design Ideas from Another Sailboat Quilt

Design Ideas from Another Sailboat Quilt

I promise.  This will be the last one … unless I come across something else that I find interesting enough that I can’t resist sharing 🙂 This Baby Sailboat quilt came from a Leisure Arts Publication, Quick Method – Classic Blue Quilts.  It’s quite old, but I found some copies online on eBay … and I wouldn’t be surprised to still see it on shelves at Jo-Ann. I think there’s a couple of interesting design...
