A Problem Solved
My favorite quilt style is Scrappy so I was delighted to see this month’s Lotto block continued the made fabric theme. By January 3rd I had pulled out a mound of red scraps. January 9th came and I was still looking at the same mound. Why couldn’t I get started on what should be an easyblock? It took me three days to make the first heart and another week to make the second one. In the meantime, to avoid that pile of red, I cleaned things, ironed things, did the mending, and put some other stuff away. Then in a final, desperate...

Laurie was having problems uploading her photo so she mailed it to me. Here are her 5 heart blocks. FYI, Laurie, I also had problems with your file. It was huge (4 1/2 MB) so, I resized it to make it smaller … twice, and still got errors. I found a work-around, but I my guess is that there was a defect in the original file. If you have an option for email or web in your camera/photo transfer program, that’s usually the best choice to get a photo sized for the...

If you have made and posted heart blocks this month, you should have received email from me with the slightly early sneak peek at next month’s block. Also in the email is the coupon code to download The Three Bears quilt pattern for free. I am going to be super busy tomorrow (and even have a meeting schedule at lunchtime) so I sent it out early … but if you haven’t yet posted your blocks and still do so before noon (on the east coast of the US) tomorrow, I’ll send it to you about this time tomorrow. Be sure to let me...

If you follow my personal blog, Sophie Junction, then you may have already seen this quilt design. It started percolating in my head as I was thinking about a sampler quilt design for this year’s 8 inch lotto blocks. But I hope you don’t think of it as a sampler design ONLY. My idea was to create a quilt pattern into which you could fill-in-the-blocks. What you use to fill them with is up to you. You could fill them with: 8 1/2 inch squares of a large scale fabric that you wanted to feature (and not cut up) Plain squares in...

This block was my first encounter with Block Lotto back in 2010, although I only started posting in 2012. My initial blocks used yellow roses but I really wanted purple tones for my quilt. The quilt has been sitting in the cupboard for several years, sandwiched and pinned. This week it was finally finished with in-the-ditch quilting plus some additional fancy stitching on the border and centres. Thanks Sophie for this introduction to the Block Lotto community....

As with others I am hoping to get as many quilts finished in January as possible. This is number 2, it only needed binding since being returned from the long arm quilter earlier in 2016. This was my first every quilt along mystery sampler. Thanks Sophie for the challenge. ...

I have received some wonderful string blocks this week from Teresa (Monday 16), Kate and Karen B (Wednesday 18) and Kathy S (Friday 20). Thanks you ladies. I am taking note as to the postage costs, size of envelopes etc as the cost of postage seems to differ considerably even though 3 or 4 blocks are mailed. Margaret
