Tall Fly blocks mailed and Crossed Star flimsy

Tall Fly blocks mailed and Crossed Star flimsy

I mailed the Tall Fly blocks to the three recipients on Saturday. Here are last month’s Crossed Stars, now a flimsy.   The swap provided nearly all the blocks I needed for this setting. I had to make only two additional blocks.  I think that the ruby-red tone-on-tone setting triangles are sufficient so I will not add borders. I have an intense turquoise fabric that will be excellent for the binding.  I think I have chosen the backing...

More Shoo Fly

More Shoo Fly

I talked myself out of making more of these blocks because I have a Shoo Fly quilt I haven’t finished from when I got overexcited during a previous Block Lotto.  But since there were scraps, I enlarged Sophie’s block and made a new bag holder. The pics show it open and finished. I can’t believe that one lime fabric looks so yellow...

An old block lotto win – finished!

An old block lotto win – finished!

I started playing the block lotto back in early 2006.  Shortly after I started, I won a set of blocks -black and white 10″ Scottie Dogs on lbue sky backgrounds.  This Christmas, I have FINALLY finished making a quilt from these blocks, and given it to my elder daughter as a Christmas present. It was well received.  I did have it longarm quilted, in this perfect pantograph…  I’m glad to say, I do get through some of my...

April-December Romance

April-December Romance

I know that it’s an odd angle for a photo … I wanted to show you my finished table topper along with the sisal rug that was my color inspiration.  It was made from the 2012 lotto blocks from April and December, put together in a straight set (no sashing) with a 1 1/2-in outer border and faux piped binding. Johnny-the-cat was sure I wanted to include him and refused to budge. Here are a couple more photos taken from a normal...

Inspired by Block Lotto

Inspired by Block Lotto

When Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast earlier this fall, I wanted to do something to help.  As a quilter, you know what that means – make quilts!  I wanted to give others an opportunity to help out, so I needed a block that would be quick and easy to make, but also forgiving, easily able to be trimmed down to a different size if multiple quilters sent not-quite-the-same-size blocks in.  I loved the Disappearing 4-patch block that you...

A Block Lotto Christmas Quilt

A Block Lotto Christmas Quilt

I hope Michelle doesn’t mind … I saw this quilt in an online album of holiday quilts and noticed that it was made from Lotto blocks that she won in July 2003.  It was a Christmas in July theme–we made a block from the quilter’s cache site that Marcia named Christmas Quilt 2001. Here’s what Michelle said about the quilt: This is the quilt I made from the July 2003 BOM Lotto blocks I won. My 11th child was just 3 months...

Split Star Pillows

Split Star Pillows

As I was making the bed this morning and thinking about how it’s way past time to pull out my Christmas bed quilt, I realized I never shared a photo of the finished pillow shams made from the Split Star block. Although you have to look pretty hard to see the split stars, I like how these turned out and think all the triangle elements make them work well with my scrappy quilt.  Both pillows are the same, with slightly different scrappy...

No Blocks This Month For Me, But I Finished a Top!

No Blocks This Month For Me, But I Finished a Top!

I really do like this month’s block but life has been way too complicated to get any done.  Christmas sewing….I put it off too long…started Saturday (!!!).  I had on my list a quit for my grand nephew, Remi, the cutest ringbearer that ever was.  Remi just turned 5 and loves Thomas the Train (and anything train), so when I saw 2 FQ stacks of Thomas and Friends fabric on clearance this summer, I bought them.  I decided the...

A Stacks quilt for a child

A Stacks quilt for a child

I’m finally getting this posted! I made these blocks while doing a quilting demo at the county fair last year.  This photo was taken when I finished the top.  I made a small cuddle quilt using the Stacks block from the January 2011 Block Lotto.  It’s now been quilted and bound and gifted to an ill child. I really enjoyed this pattern.  It was fun, easy, and I think it makes a fun quilt for a...

An Oldie but Goodie

An Oldie but Goodie

I recently replaced the binding on my 10-year old sampler quilt, made using the block patterns chosen for the first Block Lotto in 2002.  When I was updating the gallery pages, I noticed we didn’t have photos of quilts of the early quilts, so I pulled this one outside to take a photo. My plans to throw it over the wall failed miserably because of the wind … so this was the best I could do.  It was so cold out there that I realized...
